Yumis family is great. They are friendly and loving. Her mother is so much like Yumi, she likes to be clean, she’s organized, she’s a marvelous cook, and she wouldn't allow me to sleep past 10… i can already see problems in our future relationship. Her dad is awesome, he has quiet a bit in common with me and my dad. He’s an engineer, he recuperates using ‘sleep credits’, he likes to have a drink, and has his own theories on how the world works (often in the face of Yumi and her mom being pharmacists). And best of all, he has a passion of cars and he uses things their entire useful life. Most of house appliances and electronics have stickers on when they were purchased, some dating back to the 60’s!!
Yumis grandparents live on the 1st floor of their house and Yumis mother takes care of them. It sounds like it’s a dying tradition in Japan because fewer and fewer kids want to, or have time to take care of their parents.
If i remember right, they are 92-something. But the amazing thing is that they are perfectly healthy. Akio buys the produce and grandma cooks in the downstairs kitchen; other times they come up for dinner. We had a good time showing them our wedding pictures and had a nice chat about our lives.
