War museum and the rest of the day tour
Traveling through the SE Asia I am beginning to realize the meaning of the cold war. The age of colonization never really ended for America it simply got renamed to the blame game. The Russians are coming!!! War by proxy – Russia/China/North Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos vs USA/Allies/South Vietnam/Kamel Ruge… - devastated so many countries and had Russia not collapsed in 94, who knows how many others would have been decimated by the fight for another missile base. Agent orange… how the fuck could the use of something like that be justified? especially with a nuke just a few year earlier?
Frankly, after seeing the atrocities of the Vietnam war (2 civilians killed for every solider, agent orange, etc…) and Cambodia (10,000’s of unexploded warheads killing people to this day) I am beginning to wonder why US government is so upset about a couple of jet liners parking in the skyscrapers. Had it not been for the vast ocean separating US from the rest of the world, I suspect many more, far worse things would have happened a long time ago. Partly unrelated, but the big scare now is a nuke in US. I would be scared shitless, but not surprised, if someone did set off a nuke on US soil for all the evils it committed, be that directly or indirectly.
Aside from that we saw some temples, tourist traps, market, took picture with the homeless, sent some presents home, and finished the day with a great massage.
サイゴン一日目は市内観光ツアーに参加です。
↓スクーターでごった返してるサイゴンの町と本日のガイドのポール。旅行会社経営の家族の一員でアメリカの大学を出てる彼はちょっと普通のベトナム人じゃないって感じでした。。そんなに丸々してるベトナム人を見たのもベトナムで初めてってぐらい。。。

↓地元の人しか買わないようなマーケット。左はお米屋さん。二番目は全て乾燥えびのお店。右の二つはにんにく屋さんです。
↓屋台の生春巻きに挑戦。次の日おなかを心配しながらですが、今回は大丈夫でした。。
ベトナム戦争の枯葉剤のせいで障害をもつようになった人たちが働く国営の民芸品工場。アヒルの卵の殻を使ってデザインされたお椀やお皿はとっても素敵だけど、値段は観光客向けでとても手が出ませんでした。。。。
夜はアロマオイルマッサージと夕食。夕食の途中で売りに来たおばさんからミャンマーの偽物ガイドブックも購入！
街で見かける何やら上を燃やしている人々。。。何をしているのかと聞いてみたら、日本でいうお盆の慣わしの一つでした。偽のお金アメリカの100ドル札などいろんな国のお金を燃やすことで、年に一度この時期に先祖が家族の下に帰ってきてさらに幸福をもたらすらしいです。。。
