For thousands of years people thought gold was most expensive and most elusive substance, until recently it was black gold. And in the last three weeks it’s been all about the green gold. Picaridin baby. This hulkulicious toxin has been eluding me like india has been eluding Columbus. 20, 30 , 40 pharmacies.. i’ve lost count, until i finally stumbled upon it in Singapore. Like a kid in the candy store I bought almost every bottle they had… all 4 of them… and in the very effective castling move, traded my lungs for an effective malaria defense.
There are basically three options:
1) Dont do anything and let luck do its thing
2) Get anti malaria medication. It’s some nasty, toxic medication that messes with your liver, and you have to take it for two weeks after leaving affected area.
3) Dont get bit my mosquitoes. With two possible repellants to chose from (i dont consider natural repellants as viable choices): DEET melts your sunglasses and Picaridin locks up your throat in closed spaces, Picaridin was a natural choice. It’s also newer (early 2000’s vs 1940 on deet), lasts longer, no rash reactions, and respells tics and other bugs.
