Challenge of the day was to ship all the goodies we got in Hoi An back to the states. The way Vietnamese think is completely opposite to a typical American. There are 5 shipping options: by Ship (3 months+), Air (6 weeks+), EMS (7-10 days), UPS, DHL. The price difference between ship, air and EMS, considering the time difference, is negligible (~$20), but nearly double with UPS and triple with DHL. When you ask a Vietnamese person what’s better or safer they say Air. Why? Because it’s cheapest. You ask most Americans and they’ll point to DHL because it’s most expensive.
朝７時にハノイに到着。９月３日はベトナム独立記念日でハノイの町はベトナム人観光客で一日中朝から晩までごった返していました。私達は、町の中心街を散策、ホイアンで買った大量の洋服を郵便で送ったりして一日を過ごしました。
By the time we were done packing our parcel home, it was 20 to 6, and post office was going to close (point of notice: unless its a museum, people in general, hotel staff included, rarely know what time anything actually closes-in this case it was 8pm). We ran down and hotel arranged two moto to take us to the post office. These guys are surgical with scooters. Imagine moto grand prix with 50’000 contenders. The best and the brightest are allowed to carry foreigners. Point is, the journey that took me 25 minutes took them 5.
By the luck of the draw, we arrived in Hanoi on the day of celebration of independence. Huge crowds outside, artists and vendors, great food, fireworks, stages with drummers, kung-fu shows, theater and live music. It was a night to remember.
↓９時半から独立記念日の花火大会があるという情報を入手。ぎりぎりに行ったのに近くで空いっぱいの花火を見ることが出来ました。日本だったらまず無理。。。
