Laos (Oudomxai) – Day2

Having the bus split into two goroups, the polish girls, and everyone else, helped us get a nice group going. It was a bit selfish abandoning the Polish girls in a middle of no where, but they really should know their limits. You’re in a middle of fucking no where, the bus station is 2+ km away and you dont know how to get there, you dont know when the next bus will come, and … over one fucking dollar??? Another bus came, and I suggested we split the group. Suddenly their faces changed, but it was too late. We quickly settled on the price, and got moving. We got to know each other pretty well on the bus to Oudomxai and decided to spend the day together.

After a rough round of negotiating for the 4 moto, we got bikes and took off for the waterfall. The ride was an educational one as asphalt had occasional gaps with massive boulders sticking out and with our limited experience on a moto if was a bit of a challenge to get used to back wheel sliding. I am still wondering if the missing asphalt was someones yearly bonus, if it was stollen, or what. But it was missing, and that’s how it was.

The waterfall was nice, and we decided to eat at a local village. Cupa noodles wasnt cutting it, and the woman didnt understand our requests to make real noodles with spices and onions etc, so we drove on. A huge BIA LAO sign drew our interest and we found our selves in a middle of a restaurant entertaining 3 kids and their dog as the ‘mama’ was no where to be found.

I reaffirmed that killing a chicken wasnt a joke, and after some wobbling people decided to give it a try. We picked a chicken from the pan and watched as the ‘mama’ sliced its neck, bled it, plucked it, and finally cooked it for us. . .  .  she then gave us fried grasshoppers and they were, as she said, really good with BIA LAO.
